Airship Armada is a turn-based tactics game with RPG elements. It’s being developed by indie team Arcturus Interactive: a group of friends who’ve been working together on the corporate side of games for over 17 years. After so many years in the industry, we finally wanted to build the kind of game that inspired us to make games in the first place.
In Airship Armada, you command fleets of airships in tactical naval battles as you follow the stories of daring captains seeking their fortunes on the Sea of Storms. It features board-game-like core mechanics combined with unique character and ship abilities that reward strategic thinking.
Various incarnations of Airship Armada have been in development for decades. The original concept dates back to before Creative Director Alex Swanson entered the industry in 2002. Even as the idea of a fleet battle game evolved over the years, founders Alex and Nate fleshed out the Broken World with two full-length RPG campaigns. We've always loved the portrayal of airships in high fantasy and wondered why no one ever made a game focused purely on these awesome vehicles!
We’re fans of high fantasy RPGs like Final Fantasy, as well as tactics and tabletop games like Final Fantasy Tactics, MechWarrior, and Warmachine. We’re also inspired by new indie tactics successes like The Banner Saga and Into the Breach. You’ll see learnings from all of these games and more in Airship Armada, though its core mechanics are uniquely its own!
